Aloha! What could be better than a day at the beach? How ’bout a run along some of Vancouver’s fabulous beaches? Add a few friends, including a trio training for the Honolulu Marathon and all of a sudden you’ve got yourself a reason to run in a grass skirt and coconut shell jog bra!
The route heads north from Broadway and Fir and hangs a right at Creekside down and onto Island Park Walk, or the Seawall, which you will follow all the way to Third Beach. After taking in the view from the western side of Stanley Park, turn around and follow the same route back to the Aquatic Centre where you will cut through the parking lot, across Beach and up the stairs to the pedestrian (west) side of Burrard Bridge. On the south side of the bridge, take the stairs down and underneath to the brewery side (or continue to the intersection 50 metres further along and wait ten minutes for the light to change) and follow Burrard to 1st Avenue. Turn left at 1st and then right at Fir to finish at Broadway.
NOTE: A couple of sections of the Seawall on this route are scheduled for reconstruction on July 19, 2010. Click here for more information of the City of Vancouver website.
