My buddy Brian Wynhoven is the biggest fan of the Brooks ST racing flat I know. He’s also Dutch. So on the eve of the biggest game in Dutch football history, what did Dario and I stumble upon at the Brooks tent at the finish line of today’s Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run in Deep Cove? No, not wooden clogs. There before us on a plastic table top, was something beyond Brian’s wildest dreams: the new Brooks ST Racer 5.
My eyes nearly popped out of my head. It was the most beautiful arrangement of orange and blue I’d seen since the 1990 Stanley Cup Champion Edmonton Oilers.
But the excitement didn’t end there. Brooks Guru, Christy Lynn, also had on display the Green Silence in its new fall colours, the new T6 which I’d caught a brief glimpse of at the Vancouver Marathon, and my newest shoe crush, the Brooks Cascadia 6 (see below).
Yeah, yeah, I know the Royal Dutch Football Association (which is apparently abbreviated KNVB) is sponsored by Nike, but maybe the new ST Racer is a sign that Holland has seen the light like one other nation at the World Cup. So, to help them in their transition, I replaced the lion’s swoosh-like tongue with something a little more appropriate.
UPDATE
Check out the video on the Brooks Cascadia 6…
And the Brooks Racer ST 5…
Maybe I should have been running in those on Sunday instead of the red and yellow Green Silence? It is a pretty nice looking shoe.
Yes, unlike that World Cup final, that shoe was a thing of beauty.
