Seventh Avenue Screamer 10k

I scream. You scream. We all scream 'CAR!!' as we blindly sprint across Oak Street.

Back in the Cambie days, one of our favourite Strava segments was the 7th Avenue Screamer, a straight, slightly downhill 1.5-kilometre rip on 7th Avenue from Hemlock to Cambie Streets, which includes a potentially death-defying crossing at Oak Street around the halfway mark. (You can thank segment creator, Tim Nixon, for that.)

This route was suggested by Mark Schellenberg and is dedicated to Mark and all the other crazy kids out there who feel sentimental about the old days tearing down 7th Avenue without a care in the world.

Strava fans take note: as of this posting, the CRs for the 7th Avenue Screamer are 4:43 run by Jan Heuninck on September 16, 2015 and 5:37 by Alexis Cassap-Hanson on January 10, 2018. Also of note, especially for the faint of heart, there is a shorter Seventh Avenue Safety Screamer, from Oak Street to Cambie Street. The fastest times for the Safety Screamer are 2:36 by David Tapia on September 19, 2018 and 3:03 by Alexis during the same run she took the full Screamer CR.
