Trout Lake contains no trout and enough bad stuff that it’s usually closed to swimming, but that doesn’t make it any less pretty a destination within easy running distance of the Cambie Running Room.
The lake is in the centre of John Hendry Park and is encircled by a weaving network of crushed gravel and paved pathways. The park is intersected by several bike routes and is midway between the Commercial-Broadway and Nanaimo Street Skytrain stations. There is a washroom by the beach at the south end of the lake and the Trout Lake Community Centre is nearby, on the Victoria Drive side of the park.
Turn-by-Turn Directions:
Yes, I borrowed the fish scales of a stream resident Coastal Rainbow Trout from my favourite fishy illustrator in the whole world, Joe Tomelleri.
