This guy’s going to the 2012 Olympic Games in London!
No, no, the guy on the right. This morning in Rotterdam, Dylan Wykes, the Kingston, ON native who has called Vancouver home for the past year or so, ran the second fastest marathon ever by a Canadian and punched his ticket to London in the process. Dylan will join Reid Coolsaet and Eric Gillis, on a Canadian Olympic marathon team which will send three men for the first time in… well, I’ll have to look it up, but considering we haven’t sent a marathoner of any gender since Bruce Deacon ran in Sydney in 2000, you can bet it’s been a really long time.
A year ago Dylan came and spoke to my Running Room marathon clinic. He was laid-back, approachable, and really keen to speak to the group about training, race preparation, recovery, and his overall experiences as an elite distance runner. It was an honour to have him speak to the clinic and to welcome him to the Vancouver running community. Vancouverites — runners and non-runners alike — can rally behind Dylan and cheer with pride as he makes his Olympic debut on August 12!
