The Longest Day is a great event offering a 5k and 10k on the Point Grey campus of my alma mater, UBC. Held on a Friday evening each year some time around the shortest night of the year, the Longest Day serves as a great tune-up race for marathoners and doesn’t interfere with their long Sunday run. It also has THE BEST post-race barbecue in Vancouver.
With a touch of achilles tendinitis, a sore hip and a 50-miler next weekend, I had a backpack full of excuses for not running the Longest Day this year… but a handful of members of my marathon clinic jumped right in on June 18, so I had no choice but to run up to cheer them on.
PBs all around as Alan Yu ran a 40:45, Amelia Fraser 42:26, Alyson Schmidt 44:52, and Carolyn Reardon 47:09. Dario was a no-show, but Aaron Case ran a 36:18 for 10th overall.
