This is my first Remembrance Day without my grandfather, Richard J. Johnstone, who passed away in March at age 98. He was a sports writer and newspaper editor in Regina before World War II during which he served as a Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. On June 6, 1944, he commanded a ship that landed on Juno Beach during the crucial Allied Invasion of Normandy, France.
